Proven Results
Research from the National Institutes of Health has proven that CDC-recognized programs can reduce the number of new cases of type 2 diabetes by 58% overall and by 71% in people older than 60. The Shasta Family YMCA no longer offers a CDC diabetes prevention program, but they are partnering with the American Diabetes Association to offer Project Power, an online diabetes lifestyle change program. For more information, go to Project Power-Shasta Family YMCA.
Lifestyle changes that include eating healthy, being more active, managing stress, and losing some weight can lower your risk of having a heart attack or stroke, help you feel more energetic, and may delay or prevent a prediabetes diagnosis.
You Don't Have To Do It Alone
You don’t have to make these changes alone. You can have the support of so many others who want you to succeed. You can celebrate small victories along the way, leading to the best reward…better health and improved energy.
Learn ways to eat healthier, increase physical activity, and make other changes to improve your overall health and well-being. Lifestyle changes such as these can prevent or delay the development of type 2 diabetes and dementia.
Group Support Keeps You Motivated
A little encouragement goes a long way when you are making big changes. Being part of a supportive group of peers can help you stay motivated. Consider joining a community health education workshop or class such as those offered at Shasta Community Health Center or the Shasta Family YMCA.
