Shasta Family YMCA Diabetes Prevention Program Information Session

Do you struggle with your weight, have a family member with diabetes, or have high blood sugar?

The Shasta Family YMCA Diabetes Prevention Program can help you lose 5 to 7% of your body weight, and reduce your risk for developing type 2 diabetes by more than half. Receive the support you will need to live the life that you love!

You are invited to attend a FREE information session that will be held on Tuesday, June 28th from 4:15-5:15 pm at the Shasta Family YMCA, Studio 2. Bring a friend or family member with you, space is limited. Membership in the Shasta Family YMCA is not required.

You are invited to attend a free information session that will be held on Tuesday, May 3rd, 4:00 pm at the Shasta Family YMCA, Y South Building. Space is limited. Bring a friend or family member to find out more about the Shasta Family YMCA Diabetes Prevention Program or call the Program Coordinator at 530-768-2185, you can also email at ymcadpp@sfymca.org. Membership in the Shasta Family YMCA is not required.

New Shasta Family YMCA Diabetes Prevention Program session starting on Wednesday, February 9th from 4-5pm. Participant goals are to lose 7% of their body weight and increase their physical activity. Small group and lifestyle coaches help you over the course of a year. For more information about the session, see Diabetes Prevention Program Flyer.

Let's Talk Prediabetes-November 30, 2021

Join us for the 3rd annual Let’s Talk Prediabetes online event on Tuesday, November 30th from 5:30pm-7pm. We will be hosting a live Q & A with local health care practitioners in collaboration with KIXE, Shasta Community Health Center, Shasta Family YMCA, Mercy Medical Center, Shingletown Medical Center and Hill Country Clinic.

Topic:  The burden of prediabetes and diabetes epidemics will continue to grow. In 2017-2018, 18% of Shasta County adults were diagnosed with diabetes and 20% with prediabetes. Evidence-based strategies for diabetes prevention exist; yet they are underutilized by patients and under recommended by providers. This talk will provide key information on diabetes prevention strategies.

Watch clips from the PBS documentary, Blood Sugar Rising. Diabetes and prediabetes affect more than 100 million people in the U.S., claiming more lives than cancer and HIV combined. Blood Sugar Rising puts human faces to these statistics.

Healthy cooking demonstration, featuring Chef Pam Buono of Bella Cucina. Chef Pam will show you how to prepare lentil soup using fresh, local ingredients and an easy vinaigrette dressing.
